California Dress Code

All Rainbow girls and adults are expected to follow the approved dress code for California Rainbow. Please see below for the appropriate attire for various ceremonies and activities.

General Appearance

Girls & Adults

  • Proper undergarments must always be worn and not be visible.
  • Body piercing jewels (other than one (1) pair of earrings, worn in the earlobes) should not be worn at Rainbow functions.
  • No visible tattoos.
  • Clothes should be clean and neat in appearance.
  • Always "DRESS FOR SUCCESS" keeping in mind that the attire should be AGE and EVENT appropriate.
  • Be sure shirts are long enough that there are no bare midriffs when arms are raised.

Installations, Initiations,
Official Visits, and Receptions

Girls

  • Formal
    • Floor Length - maximum2" off floor
      Tea Length - mid-calf
    • Color - Any color
      (Except black or very dark colors)
    • Straps - Not more than 1" off shoulder
    • Back - No lower than natural bra line
    • Slits - Not to exceed your knee
  • Socks - Nylons, Knee Highs or Footlets.
  • Shoes - Dress Shoes (white or pastel, Sandals are not considered dress shoes.)
  • Candidates - May wear church-like dress any color except black or very dark colors. Nylons/Knee High. Dress Shoes

Adults

  • M.A. and Advisory Board Ladies
    • Formal - Same as girls' requirements
  • Ladies
    • Formal - Same as girls' requirements
    • Dress, Skirt & Blouse, Dress Shoes
  • Men
    • Dress Pants, Shirt, and Tie
    • Jacket is Optional

Never any halter straps or revealing formals/dresses.
No cleavage showing when standing or bending over.

Regular Meetings, Fraternal or Civic Activities

A vote of the girls in the assembly will decide
the dress code for regular meetings.

Girls

  • Formal/Dress/Skirts/Blouse/Sweaters
    • Length - Must touch floor when
      kneeling & cover knees when sitting
    • Color - Any color (Avoid black &
      very dark colors as much as possible)
    • Dress Pants - at natural waist line
    • Blouses/Sweaters - Not too short or tight
  • Socks - Nylons, Knee Highs, Socks or Footlets
  • Shoes - Dress Shoes (white or light colored, Sandals are not considered dress shoes.)

Adults

  • Ladies - Same as girls' requirements
  • Men - Dress Pants, Shirt, or Polo Shirt

Grand Officers, GWA & PGWA

  • Formal (See Installations/Initiations Details)

No jeans, hip huggers, tight pants, skorts, mini skirts, capris, T-shirts, tube tops, halter tops, clogs or athletic shoes.

Practices, Service Projects, Socials,
Public Relations, & Fund Raising Events

Girls & Adults

  • Dresses, Skorts, Pants - Worn at waistline, hemmed & no holes.
  • Jeans - Only on certain occasions.
  • Shorts - Not above mid thigh.
  • Shirts, Polos, & T-shirts - Shirts must contain no print that is offensive or controversial. Matching Assembly Polos or T-shirts are appropriate and suggested.
  • Shoes - Casual (no athletic shoes, flip flops or boots).

No hip huggers, short shorts, tight pants, mini skirts, tube tops, halter tops, spandex shorts, spandex pants, clogs, flip-flops, boots or athletic shoes.

Swimming

  • Bathing Suits - One-piece or two-piece providing the suit is in good taste and not revealing.
  • Cover-ups & Shoes - Mandatory in hotels and other facilities when traveling to and from the pool.
