Getting to Know Our Dean
By: Cristina M., GEC, Dean of the Grand Cross of Color, Rep. to CT/RI, Natoma
Hello California Rainbow! My name is Cristina M. and I am so honored to serve as Member of the Grand Executive Committee, Dean of the Grand Cross of Color, and Representative to Connecticut and Rhode Island.
I was initiated into Natoma Assembly when I was 11 in September of 2012, and I am so blessed for all the amazing friendships I have made. In 2014, I experienced my first struggle with a hairpiece by participating in Grand Choir. In 2016, I had the honor of receiving my Grand Cross of Color, and that following year I served as an Observer Helper. In 2018, I was appointed to the Service Court and in 2019 I was announced as Page to the Grand Directors for Grand Assembly!
I am currently a sophomore at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a major in Nutritional Science. My favorite hobbies are singing, biking, and meditation! Being involved in my church choir is special to me because it allows me to maintain a relationship with God while also doing what I love! Similar to singing, bike riding is another passion of mine. It’s a great way to stay active while also enjoying nature! A couple of months ago, I was hired to work for a girl with special needs, and this has quickly become the best part of my day. Maria is such a light in my life and she’s taught me a lot over the last few months! I am super lucky to have a job I look forward to.
I am so excited for this year as a Grand Officer! It is because of my amazing Assembly and Advisory Board that I have been given this honor and I am so blessed. This office is an absolute dream and I cannot wait to see where this year takes all of the Milestone Making Meerkats!
It’s crazy to think that just shy of nine years ago, I was initiated into Natoma Assembly and experienced my first Grand Assembly. I was in awe of everything Rainbow and the Grand Officers were always strong leaders I aspired to be. Now, nine years later, I am writing an article about holding the office of my dreams! This year is definitely going to be different, but with so much to look forward to, I pray we can all be together to celebrate 100 years of Rainbow!
