By Carley L., Assistant Grand Editor
Hey everyone! I’m Carley, your Assistant Grand Editor in California Rainbow. What does Assistant Grand Editor do, you may be wondering? Well, that is exactly what I’m here to tell you. Assistant Grand Editor edits, writes and works for the Pot Of Gold. We write at least eight articles a year. This includes our four editorials, which can be written about pretty much anything, but are usually there to inspire California Rainbow Girls. These articles also include our bios, to tell you about our life inside and outside of Rainbow, an article about the Grand Service Project, our Office Description, and our Will and Testament. This year I have written around ten articles so far, but that’s not all we do! We also get to edit everyone’s articles they send to us, as well as place them in our amazing newspaper! Each article is very special and we feel that all should be showcased. With each article, we get to choose fun pictures and graphics to go along. One of my favorite things the Assistant Grand Editor gets to do is choose the spotlight assembly articles for the back of the Pot Of Gold as well as design the page all by myself. This year I got the opportunity of reading many incredible assembly articles and it was very hard to choose which four went into the spotlight! As Assistant Grand Editor, I also get to choose which amazing writer gets the Assistant Grand Editor trophy.
How do we get this all done? We meet at Mrs. Warney’s house for many weekends for two to three days each time. We put lots of time and effort into the Pot Of Gold for Rainbow Girls and adults all up and down California! Each weekend the Editor and Assistant Editor bring snacks of their choice to enjoy. They also get to enjoy Mr. and Mrs. Warney’s delicious food. My favorite meal this year was Mr. Warney’s tri-tip along with Mrs. Warney’s homemade scalloped potatoes!
Overall being Assistant Editor is a super fun and rewarding job. I love when I get my Pot Of Gold from our incredible Circulation Manager, and I get to see all the work I put into it. It makes me happy when I hear girls and adults talking about how much they loved the Pot Of Gold. Usually, their favorite part about it are the graphics and fun activities throughout. Being Assistant Grand Editor has been a wonderful experience. I have had so much fun working with my partner as well as Mrs. Warney. I have appreciated every moment of this year and made the best of every experience. Of course with everything in life, there are ups and downs, but learning from the downs has been one of my favorite parts of the job. In the Pot Of Gold, we sometimes make mistakes, but that is okay because we are only human and I love learning from those mistakes. I can’t wait to see what my Grandie and I will accomplish next year in our Pot Of Gold!
