PR Team Wants You!

The California Rainbow Public Relations Team is looking for girls to serve on our team for the 2017-18 year. The purpose of the team is to get the attention of the community, and to tell them who we are. We are looking for girls who are excited to learn more and develop marketing and social media skills. We are very excited to continue to have active members of assemblies as members of our team. We will be announcing the new members of the Public Relations Team at the First OV. California’s Grand Talent Teams Wants Rainbow Alumni Members!

California Rainbow is looking for excited Rainbow Alumni to join Team Talent.  We are looking for 5 Coaches and 1 Assistant Director.  Each coach will represent a different area of the Team: Vocal, Dance, Instrumental, Comedy/Precision and Sports.  If you have a strong background in any of these areas and want to share your own talent with California Rainbow, please apply. Members of Team Talent will serve as ambassadors throughout the state, promoting the competition at their local events.  See a girl sing a beautiful song?  Encourage her to apply.  Serve as her mentor.  Overhear a girl talking about her love of baton twirling? Encourage her to apply!  The Team will serve as mentors for all girls who wish to apply.  Maybe a duo is stuck on what song to sing and needs some help determining which choice serves their voices best?  Or maybe a comedy group needs some guidance organizing themselves.  Or maybe a girl gets some nerves the night before her audition and she just needs someone to talk to.  Team Talent will be here to help make sure that no girl who wants to do Grand Talent is left behind.

California Rainbow Makes Pillowcases for Children’s Hospital of Orange County

NORWALK, CALIFORNIA – When 40 girls + adults get together you expect a lot of laughter and talking, but on Saturday, August 20th, there was also a lot of creating happening. California Rainbow worked together to make pillowcases for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, CHOC. The pillowcases are used when children have MRIs. The bright colors make the imagine appear clearer. This allows them to give better and more accurate diagnosis to their patients. Not only does it give them a better picture but it also allows the kids feel more comfortable while getting tests done. Within just two hours the girls of California Rainbow were able to make a stunning amount of 40 pillowcases and 50 cheerful cards for the patients at CHOC!

What would a Rainbow event be without some ice-cream? Saturday was no different because the local SoCal Helpful Honda People came and surprised us with free ice cream! In some ways we were twinning with them with Random Acts of Helpfulness! “It’s not a dream. FREE Ice Cream!”

The next morning some local rainbow girls and a few Grand Officers, including our Grand Worthy Advisor Heidi, went to CHOC to deliver the pillowcases and notes. You can say that the kids at CHOC, will be sleeping soundly with the pillowcases that the members of California Rainbow sewed.

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a non-profit service organization for girls ages 11 to 20 that teaches girls to be leaders by building confidence and public speaking skills in a safe and fun environment. It teaches girls to help others with service to create a better community. California Rainbow encourages and inspires youth to come together to make a difference–like how its members joined forces to provide 40 pillowcases for the patients of CHOC. Just think, changing others’ lives can be as simple as making a MRI more comfortable for patients. This is one of many service projects that local and state Rainbow Girls get together to do.

Gratitude in Bloom Virtual Run … Hurry! Registration Ends 9/22/16!

How can you turn exercising into a fun and beneficial activity? You can sign up for the Gratitude in Bloom Virtual Run that benefits California International Order of the Rainbow for girls. This race can take place anywhere from your local gym to a neighborhood park and profits go towards equipping young girls the opportunity to learn leadership skills, values of community service, and the chance to earn scholarships. No matter how fast or slow you run, you earn a medal and the pride of knowing you have made an impact on this organization.

A virtual run can be as challenging or simple as you please. It is open to all ages and you don’t even have to be a fast runner. You can walk, skip, or jog a 1 mile or 5k distance. If you can’t run a mile, no sweat; you can go at your own pace and can even break up the task over several days. The fee for both the 1 mile and 5k is 28 dollars and you must register by September 22, 2016 online at https://runsignup.com/Race/Register/?raceId=34401#register. Once you sign up there is no need to report the miles you have ran. It is based on an honor system and you will receive your medal in the mail at the end of the registration period. If you cannot walk or run but would still like to donate, you can go to the website above and donate straight to CA IORG.

Upon registration, you will receive a medal. This medal is double sided and hangs upon a rainbow silk ribbon; on the back it reads “The seeds of kindness we plant in the world will be the flowers that bloom in the hearts of all we touch.” You can either keep the medal as a token of your hard work or it can be given to a loved one as a gift. If you cannot run for yourself, run in memory or devotion of someone who has impacted your life that you would like to honor.

By participating in the virtual run, you are not only challenging yourself, but are paving the way for new leaders. The money you give will help young ladies the change to learn life skills and techniques to pave the way for the future. All it takes is motivation and the willingness to give.
